Wednesday, February 19, 2014 19 Adar I 5774

7:30 PM - 9:00 PMLower Level Bet Midrash

Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel (1907-1972) was a prolific scholar, an impassioned theologian, and a prominent civil rights activist. He has been hailed as a hero, honored as a visionary, and endlessly quoted as a devotional writer.  But rarely has his writing been subject to careful analysis that is at once sympathetic and critical.  Rabbi Shai Held's book Abraham Joshua Heschel: The Call of Transcendence has been called a "watershed" in this regard, and Rabbi Arthur Green writes that "in Shai Held, Abraham Joshua Heschel has found the reader he so richly deserves."  Join the Riverdale community for two very special evenings in which we explore the religious legacy of this towering figure.

Co-Sponsored by CSAIR, HIR, Riverdale Temple, and Shachar

This program continues at CSAIR on February 22nd at 8:00pm with a second lecture "Why Amazement Matters: R. Abraham Joshua Heschel's Vision of Theology, Spirituality, and Ethics-- A Lecture by Rabbi Shai Held
